Is it just us, or does everything taste better in the countryside? At The Three Horseshoes Inn in Lickfold, West Sussex, our summer menu is built around exactly that feeling – fresh, seasonal ingredients, a few proper West Sussex producers and dishes that work just as well with a glass of chilled rosé in the garden, as they do by the fire on a cooler evening.

Here’s what’s on the table this summer and why it’s worth the drive from Petworth, Midhurst or further afield.

A Menu Built for West Sussex Summers

Our kitchen leans into the season rather than fighting it – lighter dishes, sharper flavours, and plenty of dishes designed for long lunches and lazy evenings.

It’s classic pub food near Petworth, with enough personality to make it worth a special trip, not just a passing pint.

The Dishes Everyone’s Ordering This Summer

Watermelon, Feta & Mint Salad – a genuine warm-weather favourite. Sweet watermelon, salty feta and a sharp citrus dressing make this one of the most refreshing starters on the summer menu, and it’s naturally gluten-free too.

Seared Fillet of Seabass – sweet and sour cabbage, pak choi and a spicy sauce give this main a bright, punchy edge that’s proving popular with anyone after something lighter than a classic Sunday roast.

BBQ Baby Back Ribs – slow-cooked, glazed in-house BBQ sauce, served with house salad and fries. A firm favourite for sharing (or not sharing) on a warm evening in the garden.

Buddha Superfood Salad – cous cous, chickpeas, beetroot, eastern slaw, spinach and toasted seeds, with the option to add flat iron steak or king prawns. A regular request from guests after something substantial but not heavy.

Signature Double Cheeseburger – two 4oz beef patties, bacon jam, mature cheddar and all the trimmings in a brioche bun. Consistently one of our most-ordered mains, whatever the season.

Garlic & Honey Baked Camembert – a sharing starter built for the table, with red onion chutney and toasted sourdough. Perfect for a long, unhurried lunch in the garden.

Locally Sourced, Where It Counts

We’re proud to work with genuine West Sussex and South Coast producers where we can. Our Honey Roast Ham light lunch is served with eggs from Hallgate Farm, and our haddock is a proper South Coast catch.

Where local sourcing shapes a dish, you’ll usually find it named on the menu itself – it’s part of what makes eating at our dog-friendly, countryside pub near Petworth, feel a little more rooted in the area than the average gastropub.

A Menu for Everyone at the Table

Whether you’re gluten-free, vegan, or just fussy, our summer menu is built to work for the whole table without anyone settling for the side salad.

The Bean & Beetroot Burger (vegan, in a Big Kahuna brioche bun) and the Roast Harissa Tomato Gnocchi (chickpeas, spinach and basil) are two of our most popular plant-based main.

GF and GFA options also run right across starters, mains and sides – including the Signature Double Cheeseburger and Battered South Coast Haddock.

Don’t Skip Pudding

Round things off with a proper British pudding – the Sticky Toffee Pudding with toffee sauce, honeycomb and vanilla ice cream is on of the most requested desserts on the menu. Closely followed by the Traditional Summer Pudding with clotted cream, which feels as though it was made to be enjoyed in our sunny pub garden.
